The traditional 60-minute sessions just don’t work.

A few years ago, I realized the way I was working with my High Functioning Anxiety clients wasn’t cutting it. Clients would have a 60-minute appointment scheduled, and one of 2 things would happen: 

  1. They were having a good day. Although their anxiety might have shown up last week or the week before TODAY, they were feeling great, so they DID NOT want to come to a session and deal with their anxiety. So we would spend the time chatting, and my attempts to ‘go there’ would be met with resistance.

  2. Sustainable change just wasn’t happening. If they were having an anxious day or week and we made some progress—the ah-ha’s would be gone by the time they made their way home and re-entered their busy lives.

Plus, when you have High Functioning Anxiety looking inward in and of itself causes anxiety. The 60-minute sessions weren’t cutting it; I decided there had to be a different way to work with clients and created Coach in Your Pocket.

Am I a Good Fit?

After years of working with clients via Coach in Your Pocket. I have found three things that help create a good fit: 

  1. Previous Therapy: This is not therapy, so having done some previous therapy to help you name your childhood traumas and work through them is recommended. While we will discuss your past, it is only to notice how it has informed your present.

  2. Time: You can reach out as often as you need to or want to, and clients that have the most success reach out to me daily or several times a week to check in and give updates.

  3. Commitment: Yes, I know; why would you sign up for something if you weren’t committed? AND this work is hard. Seeing yourself in a new light and changing old patterns is difficult. So, in addition to the time, there is also a willingness to be challenged and engage in the work. Both in being able to receive feedback from me and giving me feedback and asking questions to ensure you are getting the most out of the work.

This work will help you feel as good on the inside as you look on the outside. 

 

The truth is, being the go-to person, always striving for perfection, and plowing ahead at a feverish pace has helped you keep your high functioning anxiety at bay. And now those behaviors just aren’t working anymore. Your anxiety keeps creeping in more and more. You see it in your kids, you see it at work, you see it in your relationships. It is permeating everything. 

We have been taught that our deepest needs, feelings, and desires are scary and we need to protect the world from them. So we hustle to perform, achieve, and earn our worthiness.

Stop ruminating, over-analyzing, and worrying “you will be found out.”
